We’re hitting that part of the year when time feels like it’s speeding up a little, and I don’t know about you, but all I want to do is slow down and stay cozy. With this in mind I’ve been working on a free pattern for you that that I think is going to come in handy.
Presenting … Mini Christmas Stockings! Each of these little guys measures about 5″ x 7″.
You can use them as ornaments. You can use them as gift tags. And they’re big enough to hold a gift card. (Hello, teacher presents.) I designed it with really simple and as un-fussy as possible construction, so it comes together pretty quickly.
It also so happens to work well with two of my paper pieced alphabet patterns: Varsity (printed at 40%) and Uppercase Blackletter (printed at 35%).
If using initials, all you need to do is make the letter first, then add borders to turn it into a little panel, before tracing your outer template around it, then cutting. Remember when scaling down FPP patterns that the seam allowances will shrink as well, so you’ll need to compensate by adding that full 1/4″ back while piecing.
The fabrics used in the mini stockings above are:
Blue stocking:
- 1953 Jolly Santa Icons from Makower UK
- Joel Dewberry wood grain for the trim
Red stocking:
- Kona solids – I think this was “Watermelon” – with peachy-pink scraps
- Heather Ross Sugarplum Plaid on Cream for the trim
