The minute those Halloween decorations go away I am ready for holiday sewing. Here in Canada Thanksgiving is already behind us so it’s full steam ahead for Christmas! I have accumulated quite a list of tried and true patterns over the years, so here’s a round up of my favourites, plus a few new ones that have caught my eye to try this year!

Chubby Personalized Varsity Stockings

Chubby Personalized Varsity Stocking

This may be one of my all time favourite sewing mashups: it’s the Chubby Christmas Stocking pattern by Ma and Me Designs, combined with my Varsity Letters Alphabet Quilt Block Pattern. I’ve gotten in the habit of sewing new stockings pretty much every year to use as gift “bags”, and this is the stocking pattern I return to most often. Partly because of how easy it is to make, partly because of the extreme cuteness factor of its chunky proportions.

Christmas Quilts

Finally, don’t forget the magic of a quilt. These are heirlooms in the making, and I’ve never heard anyone wish they had fewer quilts to keep them warm during the cold winter months that follow Christmas. Here are a few of my favourites (not all necessarily Christmas-themed, but the beauty of this is that with the right fabric combination … any quilt pattern can be a Christmas one?
