I had a lot of projects on my to do list at the beginning of the year and now that we’re at the first quarter mark I thought I’d share one of the ones that I’ve made the most progress on. The Modern HST Sampler is a block-of-the-month (2 blocks a month, actually!) quilt-along run by Alyce of Blossom Heart Quilts. The idea is to improve your HST skills while gradually creating a 24-block sampler, and I have to say I’m thrilled with the results so far. Each block so far has incorporated a different way of creating HSTs, and with each block I’m finding my accuracy improving (to the point where I’ll probably go back and red-do my first to blocks when we get to the end!).
Here’s a photo of my second stash pull … you can see from my block collection so far that I’ve actually since reconsidered this again, veering away slightly from the true oranges and including instead some golden yellows, taking a cue from that gorgeous Morning Walk Fabric by Leah Duncan.

Putting all the blocks together like this at the one quarter mark is a great way to understand the colour mix I need to use in the next set to keep it all balanced. I’m also loving seeing everyone’s progress over on Instagram, it is going to be fun to see how they all come together.
