About the pattern

Blackletter is a foundation paper piecing quilt pattern. It includes 26 individual lowercase letter blocks as well as a pattern for a 47” x 46” baby quilt. Each letter is 4" x 9.5" (with the exception of some of the wider letters).

Difficulty level: intermediate or confident beginner

Format: Printable PDF (instant download)

Number of pages: 33

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

For the blocks:

  • Background, 1 1/2 yards
  • Foreground, 2/3 yard total scraps, or about 9 jelly roll strips. (For the letters in the pictured baby quilt I used 8 fat eighths, with fabric to spare.)

For the baby quilt, all of the above, plus:

  • Background, 1 1/4 yards
  • Backing, 3 yards
  • Binding, 3/8 of a yard

Anyone else doing Libs Elliott’s 2021 block-of-t Anyone else doing Libs Elliott’s 2021 block-of-the-month/sampler? I won’t tell you how many piles were created and destroyed before I arrived here, but I think this is “the one.” The jumping off point was the delicate pink floral in the very middle, from a Figo fabrics collection by another Canadian artist, Emily Taylor. It evolved into the mix you see here, which may seem like “a lot,” but I can tell this quilt along is going to be a bright spot of pure fun and I wanted my fabrics to match! #sewsquadsampler2021 #libselliott #sewsquadsampler #blockofthemonth #fabricstack #quilting #quiltingfun
Have you discovered any “surprise stars” in yo Have you discovered any “surprise stars” in your stash during these past ten months? For me it’s been a small cookie tin stuffed full of bias tape (mostly from @bumbleofbees 🙂). It has been so handy to have a little assortment that I can just dip into for small sewing projects, like this cushion I made from a test block. 💕🌷#darlingsquilt #quiltblock #orphanblock #sewing #flowerquilt #heartquilt
