Two free modern baby quilt patterns to share with you today, both perfect for beginners. Pop Blocks is ideal if you have some leftover yardage of favourite fabric prints you want to showcase, and Pixel Posies is a great choice as a scrap-friendly quilt project. Now on to the quilts!

Free baby quilt pattern POP Blocks

First up is Pop Blocks, measuring 40″ x 40″. This is the first free pattern you get when you join the Unblock newsletter. Inspired by geometric paintings from the Abstract Expressionist movement, it’s super simple to construct, as you can probably surmise from the photos, so makes for a really quick, definitely under a weekend sewing project or last minute baby shower quilt. I used some treasured prints by Lizzie House, Elizabeth Olsen, and Leah Duncan in mine, along with a pop of neon yellow using a solid fabric from Michael Miller.

The second pattern requires more cutting and piecing but also uses traditional patchwork with simple straight line sewing. Pixel Posies is good for using up scraps and with a little planning you can make a rainbow quilt just like the version pictured here. This freebie actually includes step by step instructions for both a 36″ x 36″ baby quilt, as well as an individual block, so you could sew more and make an even larger quilt.
