So Sugarcubes as-it-is-written calls for two different values of the same colour in a single block ... but the truth is it looks good with two different colours as well. (Even here though I like to keep the darker tones to the corners, and a lighter tone for the pieces that run diagonally across the middle. #sugarcubesquilt #rubystarsociety #modernquiltblocks

I started cutting with certain pairings in mind, but at this stage it’s another opportunity to change things up once you start to see how the pieces are working together at this scale.

Sugarcubes relies on fabrics from the same colour family, in differing values, to achieve its effect. These variations in volume, used in the same parts of each block across the quilt, create some motion and an almost glowy, sparkly look (imho). #sugarcubesquilt #modernquiltpattern #rubystarsociety

What I like to do for my Sugarcubes pulls is start with a single fat quarter bundle (Smol by Kimberly Kight of Ruby Star Society for this one), then pull out any prints that aren’t part of my colour scheme (in this case, some reds). Next I'll mix in some prints from previous collections. 💕 #rubystarsociety #sugarcubesquilt #modernquiltpattern
