Blackletter details
- Bonus lowercase 47” x 46” baby quilt pattern included
- Block size is 9.5" high and at least 4" wide (depending on the letter).
-
Note that the full block size includes blank spaces above and/or below the letters themselves to accommodate projects that use a mix of upper and lowercase letters. The size of an uppercase letter (for example) is itself actually just over 6" tall.
You can also scale these letters by using the 'print at x%' setting on your printer. The smallest I have tried is printing at 50% scale, which resulted in uppercase letters that were 3 inches high. This does result in some tiny pieces but it is doable! If scaling down, remember to add a full 1/4 seam allowance back to your outer edges of each piece.
Fabric requirements
For 26 letters:
- Letters, about ⅔ yard total scraps or 10 jelly roll strips or 8 fat eighths
- Background, 1 1/2 yards
Fabric requirements for the lowercase baby quilt are all of the above, plus:
- Background, 1 1/4 yards
- Backing, 3 yards
- Binding, 3/8 of a yard
This pattern also includes two alternate lowercase letters ("s" and "x" - not pictured, but in the same style as the uppercase versions).
The patterns assume that you are fairly confident with foundation paper piecing (FPP) and do not include basic instructions for this technique. The patterns do include tips and guidance, however, and there are lots of free videos out there for FPP, so don't be intimidated!
Digital PDF download.
