If you’ve been following for a while, you may know that alphabet patterns are one of my biggest quilt loves. I love watching what  you do with these patterns, but I’m also always secretly hatching plans for my next one. In the summer I competed a full uppercase top in Tilda blue chambray with neon pink letters, and since then I’ve been pondering my options. I’d already decided that the next one I sew would be some sort of phrase (as opposed to a straight A to Z) when I was lucky enough to cross paths (virtually) with fabric designer Tiffany Lauren. Her new fabric collection: Fairytales.

Honestly the name alone was enough to send my imagination off in a million directions (I mean, the possibilities)! But then I dug into the swatches … well just take a look! Pinks, mint, navy, citron … these are all right up my alley. And the prints themselves are so fun and romantic. Print-wise there is a really great mix of large and small scale floral (I love those little rose buds), not to mention birds, some sweet starbursts … and ribbons. You know that scene in Cinderella where the mice and birds help with her dress? My sister and I used to watch that scene over and over again, and ribbon prints will always have a place in my heart for that specific reason.

All that said, when Tiffany reached out with the idea of pairing her Fairytales fabrics with my Blackletter patterns for some mockups, I was instantly in. And I think the results are pretty magical. Without further ado here is a small sampling of the many that I dreamt up (it was that fun) with a magical fairy tale theme.

Once Upon a Time

A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes

I had an idea to make a set of bolster pillows with the word “Dream” on it using the uppercase pattern. You could also do this with someone’s name.

This one is super fun I think, I can see a lot of ways to create a special or wedding or anniversary gift using the combination of numbers and letters, maybe even spelling our the names of the recipients?

Happily ever after quilt

I may or may not have a few more in the works, inspired by a certain fairytale romance pretty much everyone in my little circle is VERY EXCITED ABOUT. More to come there.

Happily Ever After

In the meantime, I’d love to hear what phrases you’d choose for this pairing. Do you have any special milestones coming up? What story would your quilt tell?
