The Monarch Flight Quilt is a new pattern from Oh Sew Brooke. I’ve been doing some pattern testing for quilty friends in the first part of the year and feel I am off to a great start with this one!

Not only did I finally use some much-loved prints to make my Monarch Flight Quilt top, but I I think used them in different combinations than I might have if I was working on a project that was strictly for myself. So it was a good way to get a bit out of my sewing comfort zone.

The pattern itself was super fun, with a strong geometric design. (I love that pretty banding that separates the middle from the border.) It has a perfect balance of repetition and variety, two keys to a successful finish (i.e. cutting and piecing fairly quickly, while keeping your interest). There aren’t any quilts with a centered motif like this in my personal collection, so I’m excited to get this quilted and bound and into use.
